02700	idea.  At present, I fear that not enough money would  be  raised  to
02800	finance any important projects.  I hope and believe that the American
02900	loss of self-confidence that is the cause of the loss of interest  in
03000	space  and  is  typified by the McGovern candidacy is temporary.  The
03100	shuttle project even in its present cut down form is very  important,
03200	because  if it is successful, the cost of space travel can be reduced
03300	to where a significant privately financed program  may  be  possible.
